How do I search Expanded Academic ASAP?
When you open Expanded Academic ASAP, you will see
the Basic search screen. You can also do an
Advanced search by clicking the link on the blue
bar at the top of any Expanded Academic ASAP screen.
Basic Search:
- To search: Choose several keywords that
describe your topic. Enter them in the search box with the
connector words and & or. If
you do not use and & or, the search will look for your words
as a phrase (in the order you type them into the search box). This
can prevent you from finding a lot of good articles.
- AND: Combines search words so that the
articles you get back contain all of the words. Use and
to connect the different ideas that you want the articles to
discuss (e.g., eco-friendly and building).
- OR: Combines search words so that the
articles you get back contain at least one of the
words. Use or when you are searching with synonyms (e.g.,
environment or eco-friendly). NOTE: In the
Basic Search box, put words connected with or
in parentheses: building and (environment or eco-friendly).
- More search options: Below the search box,
you will see a link that gives you more search options. Limit your
search results so that you only retrieve articles that have the
full text available in the database.
Advanced Search:
- To search: Enter your keywords into the
search boxes using and & or. Put terms connected with
or in the same search box.
- The same search options are available in the Advanced search
as in the Basic search "More search options" link.
How can I see my search results?
After you click search, you will retrieve a list of
articles arranged by the type of source. Click on the appropriate
tab to see the results for each type of source:
Articles are arranged by published date, with the most recent
article first. You can change this by selecting an option from the
Sort by list above the article lists.
The full text is available for many articles, and will open when
you click on the article title from the results list. You can also
see a PDF version of many of the articles. For that option, look in
the red Tools box on the right side of the
full-text screen.
How do I print or e-mail articles?
You can print or e-mail articles from the full text
screen. Click on the link in the Tools box:
- Print: When you click on the Print Preview
link, your article will be re-formatted for printing. It will open
in a new browser window. To print, select File > Print from
your browser menu.
- E-mail: To send the article to yourself, type
your email address in both the "Mail to" and "Sender's email
address" boxes. Click Send.
