How do I search Health Source: Nursing/Academic?
The database will open to the Basic
Search screen. You can select Advanced
Search by clicking the blue tab above the green bar. Use
the same methods to search in either the Basic or Advanced screen:
- Keywords: To search Health Source:
Nursing/Academic, choose several keywords that describe your
topic. Enter them in the search box(es) with the connector words
and & or. If you do not use
and & or, the search will look for your words as a phrase (in
the order you type them into the search box; e.g., high blood
pressure).
- AND: Combines search words so that the
articles you get back contain all of the words you
entered. Use and to connect the different ideas that
you want the articles to discuss (e.g., stress and high blood
pressure).
- OR: Combines search words so that the
articles you get back contain at least one of the words
you entered. Use or when you are searching with
synonyms, abbreviations, alternate spellings, or related terms
(e.g. stress or anxiety). NOTE: In the Basic
Search box, put words connected with or in parentheses:
high blood pressure and (stress or anxiety). In the Advanced
Search boxes, put the terms connected with or in the
same search box.
- Limiting Your Search: You can tell the
database to search within a specific set of requirements or
limits. To do this, use the options available below the Refine
Search tab (below the search boxes). The more limits you apply to
your search, the fewer articles you will retrieve.
- Full-text: To only retrieve articles with
full-text available, select the full-text option below the
Refine Search tab.
- Published Date: To specify a date range for
the articles you retrieve, use the drop-down boxes to select the
months. Enter the year with four digits (e.g., 2006). If you
want to search within one month, enter the same dates in both
boxes (e.g., September 2007 to September 2007).
How can I view my search results?
After you search, you will see a list of articles
arranged in order by date, with the most recent article listed
first. To see the article citation, abstract, and full-text (if
available), click on the article's title. This will take you to the
full record for the article. If you have searched for full-text
articles, you will see a link to the PDF and/or HTML below the
article citation on the results list. You can also access the
full-text from the full record, either above or below the
information about the article.
How can I print or e-mail articles?
Click on an article title and go to the full record
page. You will see several links above the article title that give
you the option to print, e-mail, and more.
- Print: Clicking print on the record page will
print the bibliographic information and HTML full text
(if available). After you click print, you will see a new screen
that asks you if you want to include the HTML. Click print within
that screen to re-format the document. Then use the File >
Print menu in your web browser.

PDF by clicking the link on the record page. Click on the printer
icon directly above the PDF document, then OK.

will be asked if you want to include the HTML full text in the
