  • Author: Enter part or all of the author's name in the search box, in any order (e.g., chinua achebe; achebe, chinua; or achebe)

  • Title: Enter all or part of the title. The database will search for "any of the words entered" in the title, but you can also change this to "all of the words entered" or "exact title."

  • Keyword: This allows you to search for a combination of different keywords, for example part of an author's name and part of a title (e.g., achebe fall apart).

  • Authors by Type: This allows you to search for an author by name, nationality, ethnicity, genre, time period, or even the themes that they write about.

  • Advanced: This is a more specific search that allows you to use and, or, & not to connect your keywords.

  • Literary-Historical Timeline: This allows you to search for events that occurred during a specific range of time, including authors' published works, birth and death years of authors, and historical world events.

How can I view my search results?

Each of the search types will display your results a little bit differently. You may see a list of authors' names or titles to choose from. Click on the author or title to retrieve information. After you select the author or title you are looking for, you will see a set of tabs. Click on each tab to access biographies, literary criticism, articles, and overviews of authors' work, bibliographies, a timeline, and more resources.
