Journal and Magazine Articles: Step 3

 Journal Articles (Continuous pagination):

Continuous pagination means that each issue in a particular volume starts with page 1 in the first issue and continues numerically with each issue in the volume.   If this is the case with the journal you are using in your works cited page, use only the volume and year.

e.g.  Modern Fiction Studies  43 (2003): 251-81

Journal Articles (Pages each issue separately)

This means that each separate issue within the volume will start with page 1.  In the citation, you must provide the issue number following the volume number.  Use a period between the volume and issue number.

e.g.  Foreign Affairs  82.4 (2003): 41-50
