                               Books: Step 2

Books vary as to the citation information available. Some books have only one author, other books have more than one author, and some even list no author.  The examples below show how to cite basic forms of books on a works cited page.  If you are using a book that includes citation information not covered in this tutorial, you can consult the MLA Handbook , ask a Reference Librarian for help, or visit the Writing and Reading Center.

Book with one author:

Foehr, Stephen.  Jamaican Warriors: Reggae, Roots & Culture .

    London: Sanctuary,  2000. Print.

Book with more than one author:

Foehr, Stephen, and John Smith.  Jamaican Warriors: Reggae,

    Roots & Culture.  London:  Sanctuary, 2000. Print.

If there are more than three authors, you may list only the first author followed by the phrase "et al."

Foehr, Stephen, et al. Jamaican Warriors: Reggae, Roots & Culture .

     London: Sanctuary, 2000. Print.

Books without the author's name:

Jamaican Warriors: Reggae, Roots & Culture .  London: Sanctuary,

     2000. Print.

Notes:

Author = last name first

Book Title = italicize

Punctuation = important to include periods between parts of entry
