Come in from the Cold and Learn About Area Colleges
College Fair at Westfield Shoppingtown in Wheaton Feb. 7

Educational opportunities abound in the D.C. area, and these wintry months can be well spent indoors perusing college offerings. Busy adults and high school students investigating new career skills or the next educational step are invited to come out and meet college representatives at the 1st annual “Come In from the Cold” College Fair, organized by the Montgomery College Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), Saturday, February 7, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Westfield Shoppingtown, 11160 Veirs Mill Road, Wheaton, Md.

“Come in from the Cold” will bring Beltway-area residents together with representatives from area colleges that offer accelerated degree completion programs and those offering traditional undergraduate programs, such as: American University, Catholic University Metropolitan College, Columbia Union College, Howard University, Marymount University, MCPS Adult Education, Montgomery College, National-Louis University, Potomac College, Prince George’s Community College, Southeastern University, Trinity College, Universities at Shady Grove, University of Eastern Shore, University of Phoenix, and the University of Maryland.

Fair participants will receive a bag with information about EOC, pens, and a raffle card. After visiting a number of booths/tables, they can enter their name to receive giveaways that include college-donated T-shirts, book bags, portfolios, and more.

The MC-Educational Opportunity Center program, sponsored by a TRIO grant from the U.S. Department of Education, helps individuals in Montgomery County to enter or re-enter college or vocational programs. EOC’s educational specialists provide information, guidance/advising, and application assistance in English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, GED programs, technical programs, and two or four-year colleges and universities—and in the process of securing financial aid to meet tuition costs.
