Montgomery College President to Give ‘State of the College’ Address
Dr. Charlene Nunley to Speak About Past Accomplishments, Future Challenges March 31

Montgomery College President Dr. Charlene Nunley will present a “State of the College” address on Wednesday, March 31, in the Theater Arts Arena, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville.  The public is invited to attend and guests are encouraged to arrive for seating at 7:30 p.m.  Dr. Nunley’s presentation, which will be televised live on Montgomery College Television, will begin promptly at 8 p.m.

Dr. Nunley recently marked her fifth anniversary as president of Montgomery College, Maryland’s largest, oldest and most diverse community college.  In her March 31 address, she will discuss a variety of initiatives the College has undertaken in recent years to respond to a broad range of student and community needs, and outline the primary challenges facing the College in the years ahead.

“One of our key challenges is to be ready for a tidal wave of new students who will be turning to Montgomery College to start their college education, over the next several years” said Nunley. “We are already the first stop for six in 10 of Montgomery County’s high school graduates who choose to attend college in Maryland. With record numbers of students coming out of our school system, combined with more students than ever planning to go to college, the demand for our services will grow dramatically.”

Dr. Nunley will share with the community what she believes must happen to ensure that, in the face of this challenge, the community college’s core mission of providing open access to higher education is not jeopardized.

Parking for the “State of the College” address will be available at the Rockville Campus, which is located at 51 Mannakee Street. Additional parking will be available in the Montgomery County Public Schools parking lot, adjacent to the campus, at 850 Hungerford Drive.  Guests can access the MCPS parking lot from Mannakee Street and a shuttle will be provided to transport those who park at MCPS.
