Montgomery College To Host DebateWatch At Its Three Campuses
Group Viewing of First Presidential Debate Open to Public on Sept. 30 

          The Montgomery College is hosting a DebateWatch event on each of its three campuses Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park on Thursday, Sept. 30, at 8:30 p.m., to encourage group viewing and discussion of the first presidential debate.  The Germantown Campus will hold its DebateWatch in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 007, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown.  The Rockville Campus will hold its event in the Campus Center, Student Lounge, 51 Mannakee Street.  At the Takoma Park Campus, DebateWatch will be in the Campus Commons, Student Lounge, Room 201, 7600 Takoma Avenue, Takoma Park.  Montgomery Colleges DebateWatch is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested.   

            The evening will begin with light refreshments, followed by the viewing of the first presidential debate, which will be televised live from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.  After the debate, participants at Montgomery College will be asked to contribute their thoughts and impressions using a moderated deliberative process.  The results of these deliberations will be shared with the Commission on Presidential Debates and may influence questions or issues to be explored in the subsequent debates.

            DebateWatch is a voter education program of the Commission on Presidential Debates.  The non-partisan, non-profit corporation has sponsored all presidential debates since 1988.  Its goal is to produce debates for presidential and vice presidential candidates, providing information to viewers and listeners.

            The DebateWatch event at Montgomery College is sponsored by Montgomery Colleges Offices of Student Life; the Center of Community Leadership Development and Public Policy; and the Paul Peck Institute for American Culture and Civic Engagement.
