The World Arts Festival of Montgomery College will bring the sights and sounds of Africa to life in a concert with Farafina Kan on Monday, February 5, at 8 p.m. Just back from New Guinea, this group of drummers and dancers will perform a multimedia event of traditional and contemporary West African music and dance.

Farafina Kan is a professional performing arts company dedicated to maintaining the history and integrity of traditional African drumming and dancing. Members have been learning and performing traditional African dances and songs since childhood. The group’s name literally translates to the sound of Africa. Farafina Kan members are: Mahiri-Fadjimba Keita, Diallo Sumbry, Menes Yahudah, Malari Moore, Kori Dankwa Akoto, Nkenge Cunningham, Fofie Akoto, Lesina Martin, Jabari Exum, Amadou Kouyate, Bintou Kouyate, and Jabar Smith.

The World Arts Festival events are sponsored and funded by the Montgomery College Music Department, the Montgomery College Arts Institute, The Webber Family Foundation, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the Office of Equity and Diversity at Montgomery College, and the College’s Women’s Studies and Dance Departments.
