Montgomery College Students to Perform ‘The Vagina Monologues’
Proceeds from Productions on Feb. 10, 16 to Benefit Women’s Organizations

The Montgomery College Women’s Studies Program and the Women’s Studies Student Group will present two special productions of “The Vagina Monologues,” by Eve Ensler. The first performance will take place at the Rockville Campus on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m. in the Theatre Arts Arena, located in the Theatre Arts Building, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville. The second performance will take place at the College’s Germantown Campus on Friday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m. in Globe Hall, located in the High Technology and Science Center, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown.

The student-run production features students, faculty and staff as performers, with all proceeds going to organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls, including the Elise Martin Crosby Scholarship Fund, which provides educational scholarships to survivors of domestic violence in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, the Montgomery County Victim’s Assistance Program, which provides support services for victims of crime in Montgomery County, and the Global V-Day Spotlight for Women in Conflict Zones. The student-run production is part of the V-Day College Campaign, an initiative that encourages students to stage benefit performances of “The Vagina Monologues” in a fundraising effort for women’s organizations.

“The Vagina Monologues” is collection of monologues that Eve Ensler wrote after interviewing hundreds of women. The final product is a play that celebrates women and works to raise awareness about both positive and negative issues that affect women, such as sexuality and relationships as well as abuse and domestic violence. These intimate portraits of women reveal their innermost thoughts and feelings about their lives and their bodies. “The Vagina Monologues” contains frank language and subject matter and is intended for a mature audience.

Tickets for “The Vagina Monologues” cost $12 for adults; $7 for students and seniors. All donations and tickets are tax-deductible. Tickets are available in advance or at the performance. For information or to request tickets, send an email to the Montgomery College Women’s Studies Program at: womensst@montgomerycollege.edu.

For disability-related accommodations, call Deborah Stearns, associate professor of psychology, at 301-738-1781.
