Montgomery College Celebrates Black History Month with Blues Night
Bobby Parker and Linwood Taylor to Perform at Germantown Campus, Feb. 20

In honor of Black History Month, Montgomery College will present a blues concert with musicians Bobby Parker and Linwood Taylor on Wednesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. The concert will be held in Globe Hall, High Technology and Science Center, which is located on the College’s Germantown Campus, 20200 Observation Drive in Germantown, Md. This concert is free and open to the public.

Headlining the concert is legendary guitarist, singer and songwriter Bobby Parker. Born in Louisiana, Parker started his musical career at the young age of 11. He honed his craft in the 1950s, touring with acts such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Paul Williams, and Sam Cooke. Parker also appeared with Bo Diddley on television in the “Ed Sullivan Show.” A chart topper with his song “Watch Your Step,” Parker’s work has been cited as a major influence by artists as diverse as Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, and even John Lennon. Most recently, Parker paired with Santana in a Montreux Jazz Festival performance, which was released on DVD in 2004.

A D.C. native, Linwood Taylor has opened for blues musicians Johnny Copeland, Lonny Mack, and Albert Collins. His guitar playing helped him win multiple Washington Area Music Awards and gain national recognition through Living Blues Magazine’s “Forty Under Forty” feature. These honors have led to performances at stages around the world, from Italy to Hong Kong.
