School of Art and Design at Montgomery College Holds Scholarship Competition
First-Time Applicants Planning to Start Classes in Fall 2006 Eligible to Submit Work

The School of Art and Design at Montgomery College is holding its 27th Annual Scholarship Competition for first-time applicants who plan to start classes in the fall 2006 semester. Scholarships to the two-year art program will be awarded on the basis of artistic merit of work submitted. Art work must be delivered to the School of Art and Design on Thursday, March 9, between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m.; Friday, March 10, from 4–6 p.m.; or Saturday, March 11, from 10 a.m.–12 p.m.  The School is located at 10500 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Md.

Entrants must submit 15 works of art.  Five to eight of these works must be drawings.  While actual artwork is preferred, professional quality slides will also be considered. All submissions should be clearly labeled with the name of the entrant.  In addition, each entrant must submit a completed School of Art and Design application form, a letter of recommendation from his or her art teacher, and an official high school or college transcript. A cumulative grade point average of 2.3 is necessary to be considered for the competition.

Notification of the competition results will be mailed by March 17. A celebration of the winning entries will take place on Monday, March 27, at an awards reception at the School of Art and Design.

The School of Art and Design at Montgomery College offers a two-year intensive studio art program, designed for students who want to transfer to a four-year art school. Students major in art with a concentration in either fine arts or graphic design.  The curriculum provides students with the opportunity to graduate with an associate of fine arts (AFA) degree.

For more information about the scholarship competition, contact the School of Art and Design Admission Office at 301-649-4454.
