Discovery Communications President and CEO to Speak at Montgomery College
Judith McHale’s Visit Hosted by College’s Macklin Business Institute, April 12

Montgomery College’s Macklin Business Institute will host a talk by Discovery Communications President and Chief Executive Officer Judith McHale on Wednesday, April 12, at 2 p.m., on the College’s Rockville Campus. The free program will be held in the Theatre Arts Arena, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Md. It is part of the Distinguished Lecture Series offered by the Macklin Business Institute. 

As president and CEO, McHale is responsible for the overall strategic direction, business development and operations of all Discovery resources and properties in the United States and around the world. She was named to her position in June 2004, after serving the company as president and chief operating officer. 

Under McHale’s leadership, Discovery Communications, Inc. has grown from its core property, the Discovery Channel, first launched in 1985, to become the leading global real-world media and entertainment company. DCI now operates in 170 countries and territories reaching nearly 1.4 billion total subscribers. It has over 100 networks of distinctive programming, which represent 27 network entertainment brands including TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Discovery Health Channel, Discovery Kids, Discovery Times Channel and The Science Channel. DCI’s other properties consist of Discovery Education and Discovery Commerce, which operates more than 100 Discovery Channel Stores in the U.S. DCI also distributes BBC America in the United States. 
Before joining Discovery in 1987 as its general counsel, McHale served as general counsel for MTV Networks, where she was responsible for legal affairs for MTV, Nickelodeon and VH-1. McHale began her career as an attorney at the New York law firm of Battle, Fowler. She graduated from Fordham Law School and earned her undergraduate degree in politics from the University of Nottingham in England. 

Since April 2000, the Macklin Distinguished Lecture Series has presented industry leaders and business experts at Montgomery College. Macklin students participate in these seminars as part of their curriculum focus. Topics vary depending on current business issues. Past events have focused on global marketplace priorities, ethics in business, information technology concerns and markets, and biotechnology.
