School of Art and Design at Montgomery College Hosts Juried Art Exhibition
Competition and Exhibition for High School Students Set for April

The School of Art and Design at Montgomery College invites high school juniors and seniors to submit their artwork for the school’s 26th Annual Scholarship Competition and Juried Art Exhibition.  Artists who wish to be considered for the Juried Exhibition and Scholarship Competition should deliver their work between April 7–9.

The juror for this year’s Juried Art Exhibition will be Caesar Chaves, graphic design program head at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Chaves will choose the work for the juried exhibition and prizes.  First, second, and third place winners will be named in the categories of drawing, painting, graphic art/photography and sculpture. Award winners receive cash awards from the School of Art and Design and gift certificates from Plaza Artists Materials.  The artwork chosen for the exhibition will be on display in the Gudelsky Gallery of the School of Art and Design from April 20 – May 8.

In conjunction with the Juried Art Exhibition, young artists, who are seniors in high school and applicants to the School of Art and Design at Montgomery College, may also submit work for the Merit Scholarship Competition.  Faculty members judge the Merit Scholarship Competition and make decisions solely on the artistic merit of submitted work.  The competition’s scholarships are made possible through endowments transferred to the Montgomery College Foundation from Maryland College of Art and Design, in its recent consolidation with Montgomery College.

For more information about the School of Art and Design’s 26th Annual Scholarship Competition and Juried Art Exhibition, interested students should contact the School of Art and Design Admissions Office at 301-649-4454 for a brochure.
