WHAT: Montgomery College computer gaming students will create a full-size, live action version of the popular “Legend of Zelda” video game series on the grounds of the Rockville Campus. Students will use music, make-up and homemade costumes to portray the game’s hero, Link, and the other characters, Princess Zelda and the evil wizard Ganon.
The live action Zelda game is the first event for Video Game Expo Day at Montgomery College, which highlights the computer gaming and simulation fields. Other activities include talks by local computer game developers from Bethesda Softworks and Breakaway Games, and a showcase of student-created games, art and animation.
WHEN: MONDAY, MAY 1, AT 1:30 P.M.
WHERE: MONTGOMERY COLLEGE-ROCKVILLE
OUTDOOR AMPHITHEATER, located next to the Humanities Building
51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Md.
WHY: Rather than administer a traditional final exam, Professor Solomon assigned her students the task of bringing a video game to life in order to test their abilities in creativity, communication and teamwork, which are skills needed by professional game designers. In addition, the class hopes to learn game play mechanics, capture the spirit of the actual video game, and learn what makes the game fun for its players.
MEDIA: This event is open to the media and students will be available for interviews. For directions to Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus, go to: www.montgomerycollege.edu/maps. Visit www.studygaming.com for more information.
