Former U.S. Congresswoman, Ambassador Connie Morella to Address Community College’s Graduating Class of 2008 at May 16 Commencement
J.W. Marriott, Jr., Richard Marriott, Theresa Wright to Receive Honorary Degrees; Four Students to Speak

WHO:       More than 4,000 Montgomery College graduates, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and family are expected to be in attendance. More than 600 students are expected to participate in the procession; more than 2,200 completed degree or certificate requirements this year.

WHAT:     Former Ambassador and Congresswoman Constance Morella will deliver the keynote address at Montgomery College’s 61st annual commencement on Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. Morella served until late 2007 as U.S. ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, after serving Maryland’s 8th congressional district for 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. She also spent 16 years, from 1970-1985, as a Montgomery College professor of English. Montgomery College will honor graduates from its three campuses in Montgomery County, Md.—Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring—along with apprenticeship graduates from Workforce Development and Continuing Education programs. Four students representing each of the campuses and the continuing education programs will speak. Also receiving honorary degrees at the commencement will be J.W. Marriott, Jr., Richard Marriott and Theresa Wright.

Please Note: The North Campus Drive entrance to campus will be closed that morning. All traffic will be routed onto campus from Mannakee Street.

Montgomery College Commencement is a ticketed event.  Please have your press credentials available to gain access to the tent.
