Students Take Stage at Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre
29th Season to Feature Productions of ‘Damn Yankees’ and ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’

Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets, and she gets her way again this summer as productions of “Damn Yankees” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will take the stage as the featured shows in the Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre program. In its 29th season, Summer Dinner Theatre will bring Broadway hits to Rockville once more during the months of June and July.

All students involved in Summer Dinner Theatre had to audition for and then enroll in a course that covered various skills necessary for producing and performing musical dinner theatre productions. Students developed their singing, dancing, acting, technical skills and more, all under the instruction of theatre professionals. Classes were held every weeknight from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., starting mid-May and running through the performances of each show.

“Damn Yankees” will be featured in June. The show revolves around a couch potato baseball fan who trades his soul to the devil for the youth and talent that enable him to play on his favorite baseball team, the Washington Senators. Featured songs include “(You Gotta Have) Heart” and “Whatever Lola Wants.”

In July, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will hit the Summer Dinner Theatre stage. In this play based on the popular movie of the same name, Millie the flapper challenges the pre-existing rules of fashion, work and love.

Evening performances of “Damn Yankees” will be held on June 16-17, 23-25, while matinee performances will be held on June 30-July 2. “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will have its evening performances on July 14-15, 21-23, with matinees scheduled for July 28-30. For evening shows, the buffet opens at 6:30 p.m. and the curtain rises at 8:15 p.m. For matinees, the buffet opens at 12:30 p.m. and the curtain rises at 2:15 p.m. All performances will be held in the Theatre Arts Building at the Montgomery College Rockville Campus.

Special alumni and retiree nights will be held on June 16 and July 14. On these evenings, alumni will be given 10% off their purchases.

Regularly priced adult tickets are $34.50, and tickets for children 12 and under are $24.50. Tickets can be purchased by phone or fax. Call 301-251-7676 or visit for more information.
