Montgomery College Brings Driver Education Class to the Downcounty
College’s MVA Licensed Program Now Offered at Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus

Starting this summer, Montgomery College Workforce Development and Continuing Education will bring its popular driver education class to the College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. Community members are invited to attend an open house on Saturday, July 7, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., to learn more about the class and the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)’s Graduated Licensing System. The open house will take place in Room 122 of the College’s Health Sciences Center, located at 7977 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Md.

Registration is already underway for the driver education classes at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, with sessions starting July 7 and September 18. The classes are designed to help prepare students to take the Maryland driver’s license examination. All classes are taught at Montgomery College’s Health Sciences Center, located on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Driver’s education classes are also taught at the College’s Gaithersburg Business Training Center. Over the past three years, the College has taught more than 300 students at this location. Summer classes in Gaithersburg will begin July 7, July 23, and August 13.

Taught on Saturdays or on weekdays, the driver education classes at both locations consist of an orientation, 10 three-hour classroom sessions or five six-hour sessions, and three two-hour behind-the-wheel sessions. The classes are licensed and certified by the Maryland MVA, as are all instructors.

Prospective students should have a learner’s permit, as issued by MVA. Students under 18 are required to be accompanied by parent(s) at the orientation session. This session is designed to help parents and students become acquainted with Montgomery College’s driving school policy, Maryland’s Graduated Licensing System program, and the behind the wheel schedules and expectations.

The cost is $295 for Maryland residents. Out-of-state residents pay an additional $140 fee. Disability support services should be requested three weeks in advance. For registration and general information about any of the driver safety courses, call 240-567-5188 or visit www.montgomerycollege.edu/wdce.
