Montgomery College and the State of Haryana, India will sign an agreement that will pave the way for the replication of the community college model of education at the Government Polytechnic school in Haryana. This agreement was created after the Government of the State of Haryana, India, requested assistance specifically from Montgomery College with the development of workforce education and undergraduate and graduate studies relevant to the industries of Haryana.

Through the agreement, Montgomery College will assist the State of Haryana in adopting the best practices of community college education through professional development, curriculum sharing, and faculty and student exchanges. A joint Montgomery College/Haryana work group will develop the implementation plan for replicating the community college model at the Government Polytechnic at Manesar, India. Together, Montgomery College and the Government of Haryana, India, will develop new curricula for the Government Polytechnic school or adapt existing curricula that aligns with the Indian students’ career or transfer goals. Curricula for professional development courses will also be developed that support local Indian industries.

The Chief Minister of Haryana’s delegation, which includes about 30 government and business representatives, also plans to meet with selected Montgomery County companies during their visit, as well as tour the Rockville Innovation Center, the County’s fourth and newest Business Innovation Network facility.

Located in the northern part of India, Haryana became a state in 1966. Bordering Delhi on three sides, Haryana’s population exceeds 21 million people. Agriculture is the biggest industry, but the industrial sector is growing with companies now manufacturing glass, paper and automobiles within the state. Recently, information technology companies have chosen the state as a site for offices or call centers.

Montgomery College is a public, open admissions community college with campuses at Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring, in Montgomery County, Maryland. The College serves nearly 60,000 students a year, through both credit and noncredit programs, in more than 100 areas of study.
