Montgomery College Hosts Scholarship Conference for High School Juniors and Seniors, Parents, and Montgomery College Students
Information about Financial Aid, Scholarships, Local Colleges on Oct. 28

Montgomery College will host a scholarship conference for high school juniors and seniors, their parents and Montgomery College students on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event will provide information on financial aid and national and local scholarship opportunities. It will be held on the College’s Germantown Campus in the High Technology and Science Center, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, Md.

The highlight of the conference will be the keynote address, “The Scholarship Workshop,” by Marianne Ragins. Ragins will give advice on writing resumes and essays for scholarship applications. She will also talk about how to find scholarship organizations and how to use the Internet in your search. Ragins is the author of “Winning Scholarships for College: An Insider’s Guide.” Her book, currently in its third edition, provides scholarship information, but also shares Ragins’ own experiences of earning more than $400,000 in scholarship money. Using scholarships and other free aid, she was able to pay for her bachelor’s degree from Florida A & M University and her M.B.A. from George Washington University. Ragins owns The Scholarship Workshop, LLC, an educational consulting service.

The conference will include a panel discussion with area college graduates who earned scholarships to help pay for their education. They’ll share their insights on the scholarship process, especially for community college transfer students, and common do’s and don’ts.

Representatives from the University of Maryland, University of Baltimore, Morgan State University, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and University of Maryland, University College (UMUC) will be on hand to provide information about their scholarship programs.

Support for the scholarship conference is provided by Montgomery College and Wachovia. The conference and parking are free. Light refreshments will be provided.
