Montgomery College to Honor Local Arts Leaders, Filmmaker, and Broadway Star at “Arts Stars Awards” Thursday, Oct. 27
Benefit Event to be Held in Historic AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring

WHO:  
2005 Montgomery College “Arts Stars Awards” Honorees:
• Musical Theater Performer and Broadway Star Brad Oscar
• “The Blair Witch Project” Filmmaker Ed Sanchez
• Imagination Stage Founder Bonnie Fogel
• Strathmore Hall Foundation, Inc. President and CEO Eliot Pfanstiehl
• Round House Theatre Producing Artistic Director Emeritus Jerry Whiddon
2005 Arts Stars Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree:
• 96-year-old Sculptor and Longtime Montgomery College Art Student Sarah Silberman of Silver Spring, whose 75-year career as an artist was featured in a solo exhibition at the college

WHAT:  
• With a red carpet entrance, “paparazzi,” and a Joan Rivers impersonator, Montgomery College will kick-off its 2005 Arts Stars Awards on October 27 at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring.
• Award recipients will be honored at a stellar awards ceremony featuring musical, theatrical, and cinematic entertainment by Montgomery College students. 

WHEN:
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27
6:30 P.M. – ARRIVAL
of guests and pre-event reception; “Red Carpet-style” entrances
8 P.M. – AWARDS PROGRAM, along with student musical/theatrical performances

WHERE:   
AFI Silver Theatre
, 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring

OTHER MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:  Ed Sanchez and Brad Oscar, both of whom once attended Montgomery College, will hold master classes/seminars for Montgomery College students, in addition to their participation in the Arts Stars Awards. (Please contact Elizabeth Homan or Steve Simon in the Montgomery College Office of Communications if you would like to cover these activities.)

• Sanchez will talk about independent filmmaking at his class on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m., at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus of Montgomery College.  He will also screen material from his upcoming film, “Altered,” which is currently in post-production.

• Brad Oscar will offer Montgomery College students advice about musical theatre auditions and breaking into the business.  His class is Friday, Oct. 28, at 1:30 p.m., on Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus.
