Montgomery College President Charlene R. Nunley and University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) President Freeman A. Hrabowski, III will announce a unique new transfer program that will create targeted academic and scholarship opportunities for Montgomery College students who want to earn their bachelor’s degrees at UMBC.
Through the new Transfer Student Alliance program, qualified Montgomery College students will be given early access to services at UMBC, such as academic advising and cultural activities, and students will be allowed to take one university course each term at a discount.
After earning an associate’s degree and meeting the program’s requirements, Montgomery College students will be guaranteed admission and housing at UMBC. These students will also receive a $1,500 merit scholarship.
Currently, nearly 550 Montgomery College students transfer to UMBC each year. Officials anticipate the Transfer Student Alliance will lead to greater numbers of MC students who transfer to UMBC to complete their undergraduate education.
