Montgomery College Offers Retail Food Safety, Emergency Preparedness Seminar
All-Day Event on Dec. 5 to Feature Speakers from Montgomery County Dept. of Health and Human Services, FDA and Industry Leaders Sodexho, Clyde’s and Safeway

Montgomery College and the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will offer a seminar about food safety, security and emergency preparedness for retail food on Wednesday, December 5. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Montgomery College’s Theatre Arts Building, located on the Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Md. The conference costs $30, which includes all course materials, continental breakfast, and lunch. Registration at the seminar begins at 8 a.m.

The seminar aims to educate retail food service owners and operators about strategies to prepare for and respond to intentional and unintentional threats to food safety. Industry professionals and government representatives will discuss how to implement strategies and educate employees to safeguard their food.

Seminar participants will learn about a “Food Defense Plan,” the A.L.E.R.T. initiative, and the FDA’s Emergency Guidance for Retail Food Stores and Food Service Establishments, known as the Food Security Preventative Measures Guidance. In addition, seminar participants will hear about new, emerging issues in the local retail food industry, such as the County’s new ban on cooking with artificial trans fats in Montgomery County restaurants and the menu labeling legislation.

This conference provides an opportunity for industry professionals to recertify their food manager’s license. Full attendance is required for recertification.

Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 240-567-5188.
