Montgomery College will present a Rep Stage production of David Sedaris' one-man satire, “The Santaland Diaries,” from Jan. 11–14, 2007 at the College’s Black Box Theatre, located at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for Montgomery College students, faculty and staff.

Humorist David Sedaris debuted “The Santaland Diaries” on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” program. Based on his own personal experiences, the subversive holiday riff follows the tribulations of Crumpet, a slacker employed as Santa’s helper at a Macy’s Department Store, as he bears the indignities of Elf School, the crunch of pushy parents and the cacophony of whiny children with all the patience of a sugar-plum curmudgeon in jingle bell hell. This show contains adult language and content.

Sedaris is also the author of the best-selling books “Barrel Fever,” “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim,” “Holidays on Ice,” “Naked,” and “Me Talk Pretty One Day.” In 2001, he was awarded both the Thurber Prize for American Humor and Time Magazine’s “Humorist of the Year” commendation.

Starring in the Rep Stage production of “The Santaland Diaries” at Montgomery College will be award-winning actor Bruce Nelson. Nelson is a recipient of the Helen Hayes Award for his roles in Rep Stage’s “The Dazzle” and “The Violet Hour” as well as Helen Hayes nominations for his roles in the company’s productions of “The Mystery of Irma Vep” and “Faith Healer.” Rep Stage is a professional Equity theatre in residence at Howard Community College.

“The Santaland Diaries” will be performed at 8 p.m. on Jan. 11–14. There will be a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on Jan. 14. All performances will take place at the Black Box Theatre at Montgomery College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. The theatre is located in the Communications Arts Center at the corner of Chicago and Philadelphia Avenues, Takoma Park, Md.

Tickets may be purchased by calling the Rep Stage box office at 410-772-4900 or visiting www.repstage.org. Tickets for Montgomery College students, faculty and staff must be reserved by calling 301-650-1368 and purchasing tickets before the performances.

“The Santaland Diaries” is being presented as part of the Arts Alive artistic partnership program, with the support of the Montgomery College Arts Institute.
