Montgomery College's annual collegewide commencement ceremony -- honoring graduates from the Germantown, Rockville and Takoma Park campuses of the community college, as well as apprenticeship graduates in Continuing Education programs -- kicks off the official graduation season in Montgomery County. With approximately 40,000 students -- including those in credit and noncredit programs -- the 54-year-old community college serves a student body that is represented by individuals from nearly 170 nations. Students of all ages and backgrounds will be among those earning their associate degrees and other certifications.

Among the hundreds of graduates, four students will be especially honored by Montgomery College’s Board of Trustees for their academic achievements. They include: Asiya Ourmanova, a Macklin Business Institute Scholar at the Rockville Campus; Cheryl Reggio, a nursing student at the Takoma Park Campus; Brian Lopez, a general studies student at the Germantown Campus; and Christene Ann Rager, Apprenticeship Scholar. Each has maintained a 4.0 grade point in their studies at the college. For this accomplishment, they will be presented with a Board of Trustees Scholar Award and $500 toward their future higher education.

The featured speaker for the commencement ceremony will be Dr. A. Lee Fritschler, assistant secretary for post secondary education at the U.S. Department of Education.
