Dr. Michael C. Lin Appointed to Montgomery College Board of Trustees
Appointment Is First Of Two That Will Expand Board’s Membership

Rockville, MD -- Dr. Michael C. Lin, chair of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs in Maryland, joins the Montgomery College Board of Trustees, as its newest member. The appointment represents the first in series of appointments that will expand the membership of the Board from eight members to 10 members by the year 2001.

"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Lin to the Montgomery College Board of Trustees," said Dr. Charlene R. Nunley, president of Montgomery College. "We know that, based on his outstanding combination of professional and community experience, he will be a tremendous asset to the Board and the College."

Lin, a program officer at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, is responsible for administering research grants supporting biomedical research nation-wide. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Medical College of Georgia.

A resident of Montgomery County for nearly 30 years, Lin has been active in its civic affairs. He has been a member of the Montgomery County Retail Liquor Operation Advisory Board and the county’s Police-Community Task Force. In addition to his leadership role on the Governor’s Advisory Commission, he has served as president of the Organization of Chinese Americans and been a member of the Board of Leadership Montgomery. He is also on the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is the managing partner of the Canterbury Hotel Group.

In its charter from the State of Maryland, Montgomery College is governed by a Board of Trustees, all of whom are appointed by the Governor to six-year terms, except for a student representative, who is selected annually for a one-year term.  

The Board of Trustees exercises general oversight of the College and is empowered to establish policies and procedures for implementing the colleges mission. Among its responsibilities is the setting of salaries and tenure of the president, faculty and other employees, as well as the establishment of entrance requirements, course offerings and tuition rates.
