Montgomery College Honors Student Appointed to Colleges Board of
Trustees
Montgomery Scholar Emil Parker Will Represent Students During Year-long Appointment
| Rockville, Maryland Nineteen-year-old Emil Parker
of Germantown, a member of the inaugural class of Montgomery Colleges new
Montgomery Scholars honors program, has been appointed by Governor Parris N. Glendening as
the new student representative on the Colleges Board of Trustees. Parker replaces Etienne Takougang, who recently completed his second consecutive one-year term as a Montgomery College trustee and is now headed to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on a scholarship. Parker will actually miss his first Board of Trustees meeting this month as he is currently involved in a summer study program abroad at Cambridge University, an opportunity afforded to each of the 25 participating Montgomery Scholars. |
In addition to his student representative responsibilities, Parker, whose area of concentration at the College is international business, will also be a member of a select group of second-year business students who will attend the Colleges Macklin Business Institute. The program offers students an honors business education with a full scholarship, as well as opportunities for business-related internships and mentoring from local business leaders.
The Montgomery College Board of Trustees -- which recently expanded from a seven-member body to one of eight members and next year will expand to nine -- exercises general oversight of the College and is empowered to establish policies and procedures for implementing the colleges mission. The College has had a student representative serving on its Board of Trustees since 1975.
