Montgomery College Hosts Books and Ideas 2000

Rockville, MD -- Montgomery College will host Books and Ideas 2000, a one-day festival for readers and thinkers of all ages, on Sunday, September 24, from noon until 5 p.m. at the Rockville Campus.

Books & Ideas 2000 will provide an array of programs featuring local writers, commentators, scholars, and storytellers, appealing to adults, children, students, and families. In addition, the festival will include music, imaginative children’s programming and entertainment, vendors, and outdoor activities with panel and workshops on topic of interest.

This year’s festival will feature a Barnes & Noble-sponsored forum, “Politics, Civility, and the Media,” with Mark Plotkin, WAMU’s political commentator, and Barbara Flack-Darco, editor of the African American Times.

Writer and scholar Ernest Suarez, the subject of a recent article in the Washington Post, will explore the relationship between music and poetry. In addition, recently published authors E. Ethelbert Miller (Fathering Words: The Making of an African-American Writer) and Sonia Pressman Fuentes (Eat First—You Don’t Know What They’ll Give You and The Adventures of an Immigrant Family and Their Feminist Daughter) will join Al Lefcowitz of the Writer’s Center for workshop on writing family histories.

Admission to Books and Ideas 2000 is free. Montgomery College’s Rockville campus is located at 51 Mannakee Street. For more information, visit or call 240-567-7417.
