Montgomery College Opens Exhibit of Nationally Acclaimed Metal Artist
Exhibit Serves Recognition and Inspiration to Metal Artists
Rockville, MD -- Montgomery College will bring together the works of 10 nationally acclaimed metal artists from the around the country for an exhibition on the Rockville Campus of the College, starting September 25.
The exhibit will present approximately 50 works of fine and functional wire jewelry and metal sculpture by artists such as Mary Lee Hu of the University of Washington and Helen Shirk of San Diego State University. The show is unique because it brings together artists who are also prominent educators, according to Kamelia Okim, a professor of jewelry and metal art at the College, who has curated the exhibit.
“These are some of the best teachers in the field from around the country,” said Okim, who is a nationally renowned metal artist in her own right. “In addition, the show highlights some of the major art programs in the country, where our students may transfer.”
The works will be on display in the gallery of the South Campus Instructional Building on the Rockville Campus, Rooms 117-118. Gallery hours for the public are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, the gallery is also open between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The show opens Monday, September 25, with a reception at the gallery between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The exhibit runs through October 13.
