Hispanic Business Institute at Montgomery College Opening Its
Doors for Spring Semester Courses
The Hispanic Business Institute at
Montgomery College announces a new lineup of night courses and
workshops, to be presented on Monday evenings, beginning January
22, for the community’s Hispanic business owners and prospective
entrepreneurs. Courses are offered for four main areas of
business skill development: communications, information
technology, diversity management, and small business management.
The newly formed Hispanic Business
Institute is a collaborative effort among business, government,
education, and community-based organizations. Its mission is to
establish better opportunities and training for Hispanic people
to develop businesses in the global marketplace.
Spring 2001 Courses/Workshops
(taught in English):
- Communications
:
Interpersonal Communications; Speaking Effectively on the
Job; Effective Business Writing; and Constructing a Sound
Business Plan.
- Information Technology
:
What Computers Can Do For You (an overview), Using the
Internet, and Office Applications (MS Word intro, Excel
intro).
- Diversity Management
:
Basic Diversity Awareness; American Workplace Culture;
Managing a Diverse Workforce; Selling to Diverse Customers;
and Customer Basics/Customer Service.
- Small Business and Management
:
The Nuts and Bolts of Starting a Business; Retail Business:
Where to Begin; How to Start Your Own Import/Export
Business; Licensing a Business; How to Obtain a Business
Loan; Basic Employment Law in Maryland; Financial Management
and Strategies/Filing Taxes; and Starting a Successful
Consulting Business.
All classes will be held at
Montgomery College Workforce Development and Continuing
Education’s satellite campus in the Wheaton Plaza South
Building, Room 306B, 11160 Viers Mill Road. Free parking is
available, and the building is accessible by Metro. The cost for
the foundation series of courses is $95.00 for 33 hours of
