Montgomery
College to Host NAACP Multicultural Youth Summit
Seventh Annual Event to Held at Rockville Campus March 24
Montgomery College, in cooperation with
the Montgomery County branch of the NAACP and Montgomery County
Public Schools, is hosting the Seventh Annual Multicultural
Youth Summit on Saturday, March 24, at Montgomery College’s
Rockville Campus.
The theme of this year’s summit is "Making
the Connection: Reflections of Youth." The event is designed to
encourage high school students to gain a greater appreciation
and understanding of each other’s differences and similarities
and to teach them how to resolve conflict and become
self-advocates.
A special presentation by "City at Peace,"
a performing arts group, will set the stage for the day’s
events, which include panels and workshops devoted to topics
such as tolerance and acceptance, stereotyping, conflict
resolution and self-advocacy, surviving and thriving,
cross-cultural relationships, and self-assessment.
Registration is free, and includes a snack
and lunch. The summit will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Saturday, March 24, in the Theatre Arts Arena at Montgomery
College’s Rockville Campus.
Students interested in attending should
pick up a registration form from their high school guidance
office or career information office. For more information,
contact Youth Summit committee members Shaun Harris at
301-879-9594; Danielle Polite at 301-365-9536; or Norman Pruitt,
