Montgomery College to Host
2001 NJCAA Men’s Soccer Championship
Final Four Tournament to be Held at
Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Nov. 10-11
Montgomery College will host the
2001 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division
III Championship Soccer Tournament, November 10-11, 2001, at the
Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown. Special two-for-one general
admission tickets for adultsR014priced at $5R014are available for
advance purchase. All tickets for children will be free, whether
obtained in advance or at the tournament.
The “final four” tournament will
showcase nearly 100 players from four of the nation's best Division
III (Non-scholarship Division) junior college soccer teams. "This is
a great opportunity for the whole family and for youth teams to come
out and enjoy a great weekend of high quality, collegiate level
soccer competition," said Tom Bichy, Montgomery College-Rockville's
men's soccer coach and athletic director.
Montgomery College's men's soccer
team has long been among the nation's elite among junior and
community colleges, thanks largely to the experienced leadership of
Coach Bichy, who has headed the program throughout its 34-year
history. The MC Knights have qualified for the national finals 10
times in the past, an accomplishment Bichy credits largely to the
College’s ability to draw talent from a large international student
population and from local high schools.
This year, the Knights have raced
out to a 12-3-1 record (as of October 17, 2001) and are currently in
first place within the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.
With four games remaining, the team will have to win the regional
and district championship playoff games to qualify for the NJCAA
championship series and the right to compete in the Final Four
tournament at Germantown.
The two-day NJCAA tournament begins
with two semi-final games on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. and 2
p.m. and resumes on Sunday, Nov. 11, with a consolation game for
third place at 10 a.m. and the championship game at 1 p.m.
For those planning to attend either
or both days of the championships, the special “buy-one,
get-one-free” offer will apply to all tickets purchased by November
9. Regular priced adult tickets, which are $5 each, will be
available at the event. Children are admitted for free. Corporate
sponsors receive special ticket discounts. For ticket or sponsorship
