Montgomery College Mounts Retrospective of One of Its Own
Exhibit Displays the Art of Popular Professor and Artist Robert S. Cohen 

Montgomery College is presenting a retrospective of the works of local artist and art instructor Robert S. Cohen. The exhibit, which opens January 22 at the Rockville Campus, will present pieces spanning Cohenís 30 years of work as a fine artist and professor of art at the College.

The show reflects Cohenís lifelong exploration of expressionistic and abstract presentation of landscape and figure in different mediums, including oils, acrylics, and collage. Pieces on display will come from every period of his life as an artist. 
In addition to being a teacher and artist, Cohen has been active within the regionís arts community. Among other endeavors, he has served as president of Artists Equity Association, Washington area chapter, and helped found Rockvilleís community art centeróRockville Arts Place.

Prof. Cohen recently completed a 7' by 24' exterior mural at the Bauer Drive Community Center in Rockville, a project commissioned by Arts and Humanities Commission of Montgomery County.

The Cohen retrospective will open with a reception at the gallery Tuesday, January 22, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. with the artist in attendance. The show will run from January 22 to February 9; admission is free. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Rockville Campusí Paul Peck Art Building.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, the gallery is open Tuesday and Wednesday evenings between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. For more information, please call 240-567-5115.
