Montgomery College Features "My First Art Teacher" Images
Opening Reception for Multi-Media Exhibition is February 27

What would happen if prominent artists were asked to depict their first art teacher? Well, the question has been asked, the results are in, and they are entertaining, creative, and definitely thoughtful.

During the summer of 2001, several outstanding artists from various media were asked to reflect on their early art education and create a work titled "My First Art Teacher." Responses came from Nigeria, Russia, Taiwan, and all around the United States. They came from seasoned illustrators, students, teachers, and retirees.

The images, under the title "My First Art Teacher," will go on display February 18 at the VCT Gallery in Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus Technical Center. The College’s Department of Visual Communications Technologies faculty presents this program, which is co-sponsored by the Montgomery College Foundation and the Illustrators Club of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

The show’s opening reception will be held February 27, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Show hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through March 16.
