For Immediate Release (02-10) Montgomery College Welcomes Adult
Learners Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Montgomery College will hold an open house and information session for adults with little or no college experience, as well as those with degrees who are seeking to re-position themselves in the job marketplace. The event will be held at the Theater Arts Arena on the Colleges Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street. Current students and alumni will be on hand to share their experiences of returning to school after several years. Counselors will discuss support services, hints on how to get a good start and be a successful student, how to translate what you know into college credits, and how to finance your education. For degree holders, alumni who enrolled in Montgomery College for additional education, degrees and certificates will share ways in which they used their education to reposition themselves in the job market. Television producer Michael Brown, for example, will tell how he faced the bleak prospect of the future in a job he hated. Says Brown, "I always wanted to try radio and TV. My wife and I decided it was now or never." Brown says he chose Montgomery College because of the hands-on nature of its broadcast training and "I have never regretted it for one second." In addition to alumni, the open house will include faculty advisors highlighting available services and options to support transitions to new careers. Program:
