Montgomery College To Select New Trustee
Applicant Materials Due by November 1

The process of choosing a new member for the Montgomery College Board of Trustees will begin this fall.  Montgomery County citizens interested in serving as trustees must submit materials by November 1.

Board members are appointed by the Governor, upon recommendation of a five-member nominating committee. With the exception of the student Board member, the Governorís appointments are subject to State Senate confirmation.  The person selected  to fill the upcoming vacancy will serve a six-year term beginning July 1, 2003.

The Board of Trustees is the governance body for Montgomery College, which enrolls more than 21,000 credit students at campuses in Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park, Maryland.  In addition, almost 30,000 students per year enroll in the Collegeís Continuing Education programs.

Persons who wish to be considered for a trustee position may not be employed by the College in any capacity.  Applicants must attend a one-hour orientation session at Montgomery College before being interviewed by the nominating nommittee.  Trustees devote in excess of 240 hours per year as board members and receive no compensation.

To be considered for membership, citizens must submit a letter of intent and a resume, together with any supporting references or other documentation, preferably by e-mail, to the Chair of the Nominating Committee, Dr. Robert C. Maddox, not later than Friday, November 1 at 5 p.m.  A telephone number and e-mail address should be included.

Please send materials to: rbtcmaddox@aol.com or Dr. Robert C. Maddox, 10400 Democracy Lane, Potomac, Maryland 20854-4036.

Additional information about the nominating process is available from Dr. Maddox at 301-365-9051 or from Ms. Arlean Graham in the Montgomery College Board Office at 240-567-5272.
