Montgomery College, Rockville Campus Montgomery College will pay tribute to the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation on Friday, October 24, at 1 p.m., with the dedication of the college’s new Marriott Hospitality Center on the Rockville Campus. The center serves as the hub of operations for Montgomery College’s hospitality management department and its various outreach programs.
A five-year, $1 million grant from the Marriott Foundation helps support the Marriott Hospitality Center. The gift, one of the largest ever received by Montgomery College, has enabled the hospitality program to significantly enhance educational, internship and scholarship opportunities; and develop learning opportunities for the community. Attending the dedication will be Stephen Marriott, senior vice president for culture and special events, Marriott International; Dr. Charlene Nunley, president of Montgomery College; Thomas Ladd, vice president of Marriott International and the vice chair of the Montgomery College Foundation Board of Directors; Stewart Edelstein, executive director of The Universities at Shady Grove; and Gene Counihan, chair of the Montgomery College Board of Trustees. During the ceremony, Stephen Marriott and Dr. Charlene Nunley will unveil a special commemorative plaque. In addition, current and past hospitality students will be available to answer questions. Montgomery College’s hospitality management program, which provides a theoretical and practical approach to management, currently enrolls about 100 students. # # # |
