Montgomery College Names Business Development Chief
Former NASDAQ Official Andrea Edelstein Accepts Newly Created Post

Dr. Hercules Pinkney, Montgomery College vice president and provost of the Germantown Campus, has appointed Andrea B. Edelstein to the position of managing director for business development.  Edelstein’s primary focus in the newly created position will be on the planning and development of The Life Science and Technology Park and Bioscience Education Center which is planned for the Germantown Campus.

“Andrea Edelstein’s vast biotechnology and market knowledge and experience will make her a tremendous asset to the College and this project,” said Dr. Pinkney. “She has a long history of working with key members of the biotechnology community and is well versed on the issues facing companies in all phases of development.”

The sale of a 20-acre parcel of land, known as the Kay Tract, for the science and technology park is expected to be finalized in a few days, marking a major step toward realization of the project.  The Kay Tract is to be combined with 20 acres of College-owned land to create a 40-acre site for the business park and a state of the art classroom and laboratory center that promises to place Montgomery College among the leading institutions in  bioscience and technology education.

The business park is to include approximately 1 million square feet of high technology research and development and manufacturing space, potentially creating  4,000 jobs.  Construction on the project is expected to begin within 18 months

“I am very enthusiastic about joining Montgomery College to work on the planning and development of the new Life Science and Technology Park and biotechnology education and training program,” said Edelstein.  “I look forward to contributing to this important endeavor which will provide immeasurable benefits to the county, state, business community, and most importantly our students.”

Before joining Montgomery College, Edelstein spent nine years with the NASDAQ Stock Market, most recently as Managing Director, Corporate Client Group.  She was instrumental in the creation of the NASDAQ Biotech Index (NBI) and the launch of the iShares NASDAQ Biotech Index Stock (IBB).

Edelstein holds a BBA in Finance and an MBA in International Business from The George Washington University.  She also will work with the College’s Macklin Center for Entrepreneurship, as well as in Workforce Development/Continuing Education and Institutional Advancement.
