Institute to Host “Evening with Leonard Urso”
The Arts Institute of Montgomery College will host “An Evening with Leonard Urso,” with a special slide/lecture presentation by the artist on Thursday, March 27 at
7 p.m. in the Technical Building, Room 136 on the College’s Rockville Campus. The event is part of the Institute’s ongoing Distinguished Lecture Series and is being presented in conjunction with its March 31–April 18 art show entitled, “Wendell Castle, Albert Paley, and Leonard Urso: National Wood and Metal Invitational Exhibition.”
Immediately following the slide lecture, guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist at a reception in the Art Gallery of the campus’ Paul Peck Art Building, where the show is being featured.
After receiving a master of fine arts from the State University of New York at New Paltz, Urso began his professional career as a designer and silversmith for Oneida Limited Silversmiths. Currently, he holds an endowed chair as the Ann Mowris Distinguished Professor in the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The Leonard Urso Studio is located in Rochester, N.Y. where the artist is actively involved in creating large- and small-scale sculptures and paintings, as well as silver and jewelry art forms.
Exhibited nationally and internationally, his works are in many museums and corporate and private collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Kanazawa Institute of Technology in Japan, Bucknell University, Colgate University, Shanghai University of Technology in China, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Bausch & Lomb World Headquarters, as well as in the collections of The New York Times and The Washington Post.
