Montgomery College’s Diversity Management Institute Sponsors Conference
“Workplace Diversity: Global Issues, Everyday Solutions” Theme of November 6 Event
The Diversity Management Institute of Montgomery College is sponsoring a one-day diversity conference on Thursday, November 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Shady Grove Conference Center, Universities at Shady Grove, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville. This year’s theme is “Workplace Diversity: Global Issues, Everyday Solutions.”
The conference is designed to provide participants with the latest strategies and practices in diversity management. Workshops will feature topics such as leadership coaching, emotional literacy, and minority leadership. Panel discussions will be offered in the areas of multicultural employee recruitment and multicultural marketing.
The highlights of the conference are the morning and afternoon keynote addresses by Jametta Jenkins of Fannie Mae and Rajendra Pillai from Turning Point, Inc. Jenkins, a senior product manager with Fannie Mae, will talk about the company’s 10-year initiative called “Building Dreams through Home Ownership.” Recently, Fannie Mae was named as one of “DiversityInc.com’s” top U.S. companies with powerful diversity strategies. The afternoon speaker, Rajendra Pillai, will discuss his latest book and approaches to diversity outreach.
Developed in 1999, the Montgomery College Diversity Management Institute assists businesses and organizations as they learn how to interact, coach, and train a multicultural workforce. The Institute, part of the College’s Office of Workforce Development and Continuing Education on the Rockville Campus, provides learning opportunities, consulting services, special events, courses, and certificate programs about diversity.
The cost of the conference, which includes a morning buffet, box lunch, and afternoon snacks, is $49 for Montgomery College students; $69 for half of the day; $129 each for groups; and $149 for individuals. Early registration is encouraged, but participants can register on the day of the conference.
