Montgomery College, Women’s Bar Association to Host Seminar
For High School Students on “Preparing for Success,” Nov. 15

Montgomery College and the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association are hosting the third annual “Preparing for Success” seminar for local high school students, on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus.

The all-day, female-oriented program will open with remarks from keynote speaker Julissa Marenco from Telemundo Television.  Workshops will focus students on resume writing and interview techniques, budgets, checkbooks and credit cards, and the college admission process.  A new workshop, “Street Law--Be Smart, Be Safe,” has been added this year. An event tradition, the “Dress for Success” fashion show, will conclude the program.

The program is free of charge and open to high school students in public, private, and alternative schools, as well as girls in independent living programs. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The “Preparing for Success” program has won two awards, one from the Maryland State Bar Association for “Best Service to the Public Project Award,” and one from the Montgomery County Bar Association to the Honorable Katherine D. Savage for her work in developing this program.

A collaborative effort on the part of the specialty bars serving Montgomery County, and the Montgomery County Commission for Women, “Preparing for Success” is cosponsored by the Montgomery County Commission for Women, the J. Franklyn Bourne Association, the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association, Montgomery County Public Schools, and Montgomery College.
