School of Art and Design at Montgomery College to Host Open House
Prospective Students Invited to Visit and Receive Portfolio Review, Feb. 4

The School of Art and Design at Montgomery College will host an open house and portfolio day for prospective students on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 10500 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Md.  The open house will provide prospective students with the opportunity to learn about the School of Art and Design’s program, admissions procedures, financial aid, and portfolio requirements for the associate of fine arts degree.  Current students from the School of Art and Design will conduct tours of the facilities.  Art work created by current students will also be on display in the school’s Gudelsky Gallery.  In addition, faculty members will individually review the art portfolios of prospective students and answer questions.

The School of Art and Design at Montgomery College offers a two-year intensive art program, designed for students who want to transfer to a four-year art school.  To apply for the program, students must submit a portfolio of their work along with an admissions application, letter of recommendation, and copies of their transcript. The portfolio may determine acceptance and possible scholarship opportunities during the School of Art and Design’s application process. Students in the program can major in either studio art or graphic design. They have the opportunity to graduate with an associate of fine arts (AFA) degree.
Advance registration for the February 4 open house and portfolio day is encouraged and due by February 3.  Prospective students are asked to sign up for one two-hour session.  To register, contact Maggie Noss from the School of Art and Design at 301-649-4454.  For additional information, log on to:
For disability-related accommodations, please contact Maggie Schmid, dean of the School of Art and Design, at 301-649-4454 or at least two weeks before the open house and portfolio day.
