Montgomery College to Hold Information Sessions for Students with Disabilities
March 9, 16 Sessions Introduce High School Students and Parents to Services

Montgomery College will be hosting two upcoming information sessions about the College’s services for students with disabilities and learning disabilities. On Wednesday, March 9, the College will host a general information session about the College’s Department of Disability Support Services for high school students, parents, and others who may be interested in learning about what services the College can provide for students with disabilities. On Wednesday, March 16, the College will host an in-depth information session specifically about the College Access Program (CAP), which serves students with learning disabilities. Both events will be held from 7-9 p.m. in Room 136 of the Technical Center, which is located at Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street.

At the March 9 general information session, staff from the Montgomery College Department of Disability Support Services will discuss eligibility requirements, types of services available, and appropriate course placements.

The March 16 session, highlighting the College Access Program, is designed for current high school students in their junior or senior year, and their parents. Founded in 1978, CAP is an intensive program that helps qualified students with learning disabilities build the reading, writing, and study skills they need to succeed in college and in life.  Students selected for the program receive tutoring, counseling support, and assistance in developmental classes in English and reading.

During the CAP information session, faculty, staff, and a group of current Montgomery College students, who have learning disabilities and have completed the CAP program, will talk about eligibility, application and placement, course offerings, and counseling/support services.

To request disability-related accommodations at the information nights, please contact Betsy Becker, in the Disability Support Services Office, at 301-738-8065.
