Montgomery College Students to Showcase Learning at Public Event
Student Excellence Expo at Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, Feb. 23

Montgomery College students from across the community college’s three campuses and from various academic programs and activities will showcase some of their top work at MC’s upcoming Student Excellence Expo on Saturday, February 23 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The expo will be held at the College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. It will give participating students the opportunity to share their knowledge with the community, through presentations, poster sessions, performances, and displays. Free and open to the public, the event will be held in the Health Sciences Center, located at 7797 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Md. Parking is available at the nearby College garage on Fenton Street.

The Student Excellence Expo (SEE) is themed “Come SEE Montgomery College shine” and is believed to be one of the first of its kind among community colleges. What makes the event unique is that it will allow a wide range of students to showcase various types of work, representing an equally wide range of educational interests. Faculty mentors have been working with the students on their presentations. Examples of some of the students’ topics will include learning the Arabic language, historical inaccuracy in film, Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale,” high performance computing, carbon footprints, and academic internships with the Smithsonian Institution. Other presentations will include a performance of a student’s song, an exhibit of a student’s drawings, and nursing students performing a sterile wound care simulation.

The Student Excellence Expo will begin on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 8:30 a.m., with light refreshments and opening speakers. Student presentations will begin at 9 a.m. Advance registration is recommended for this event. To register, visit www.montgomerycollege.edu/learning/see/.
