FRIDAY, APRIL 22 Montgomery College-Takoma Park More than 250 Montgomery County school children will celebrate Earth Day at Montgomery College’s Takoma Park Campus on Friday, April 22. Montgomery College faculty, staff, and students will take the elementary school students, from kindergarten through third grade and fifth grade, through a series of fun, hands-on activities and experiments. Organized by the Department of Biology at Montgomery College’s Takoma Park Campus, this event is the first Earth Day celebration for school children at Montgomery College. The children will visit twelve different Earth Day stations set up inside the Takoma Park Campus gymnasium where they will learn everything from how to make rubber and how to create a mini-aquarium to how volcano eruptions happen and how to make recycled artwork. Students will explore topics, such as “Science: It’s Not Just for Breakfast Anymore” and oil spills. Montgomery College students will also share the results of their recent service learning project, which involved testing soil and water at Sligo Creek Park.
