Montgomery College Earns Alliance for Workplace Excellence Honors
College to Receive Workplace ‘Seal of Approval,’ Health and Wellness Trailblazer Award

Montgomery College will receive the Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval and the Health and Wellness Trailblazer Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence, a nonprofit organization that recognizes ‘Excellent Places to Work.’ This marks the fourth year in a row that Montgomery College will receive the Seal of Approval and the third year for the Trailblazer Award.

The Alliance for Workplace Excellence will recognize Montgomery College and other area employers at its annual awards ceremony on June 19 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. The Alliance will present its seal of approval awards to chief executive officers and chief human resource officers from 62 employers in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. These companies represent more than 1.3 million employees from small, medium and large businesses, and from the nonprofit and public sectors.

Of the award-winning companies, 19 of them will also receive the 2008 Health and Wellness Trailblazer Award.

“That Montgomery College is being recognized once again by the Alliance with this prestigious honor is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff,” said Dr. Brian K. Johnson, president of Montgomery College. “We’re proud to receive this award and workplace seal of approval.”

Employers that receive the Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval provide workplaces where employees are able to achieve success in all aspects of their professional and personal lives, while enhancing the business bottom-line.

“These award-winning employers realize that creating a sustained culture of workplace excellence and supporting workforce health and wellness makes good business sense,” said Fiona Gathright, acting executive director of the Alliance for Workplace Excellence.

Businesses were assessed by an independent review panel in the areas of inclusive and flexible corporate culture and management practices, family and employee friendly policies and programs, strong health and wellness initiatives, growth and learning opportunities and commitment to corporate, social and civic responsibility.

The 2008 Health and Wellness Trailblazer Award recognizes employers that demonstrate exemplary commitment to the overall physical and mental health of their workforce. The Alliance for Workplace Excellence partnered with the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce to present this award.
