Montgomery College Seeks Applicants for Board of Trustees
Applications Due to Nominating Committee on Oct. 31

The nominating committee for the Montgomery College Board of Trustees is now accepting applications from Montgomery County residents interested in serving a six-year term that will begin on July 1, 2009.

Montgomery County citizens interested in serving on the Montgomery College Board of Trustees should submit a letter of intent and a resume, together with any supporting references or other documentation, to the chairman of the nominating committee, Fred Evans, no later than Friday, October 31, 2008, at 5 p.m., at the e-mail address noted below.

The Board of Trustees is the governance body for Montgomery College, which serves nearly 60,000 students annually, through both credit and noncredit courses. The community college has campuses in Germantown, Rockville and Takoma Park/Silver Spring, and a Workforce Development and Continuing Education unit with training centers in Wheaton and Gaithersburg and other off-campus sites.

The members of the Montgomery College Board of Trustees are appointed by the Maryland governor, upon the recommendation of a five-person nominating committee of local residents who are not currently serving the College in any official capacity. With the exception of the student board member, the governor’s appointments are subject to Maryland State Senate confirmation.

Persons who wish to be considered for a trustee position may not be employed by Montgomery College in any capacity. Applicants must attend a one-hour orientation session at Montgomery College before being interviewed by the nominating committee. Trustees devote more than 240 hours per year as a board member and receive no compensation.
