Montgomery College Hosts Spectrum Lecture on Biodefense Research at NIST
Dr. Joyce B. Morrow to Talk at Germantown Campus, Nov. 17

Dr. Joyce B. Morrow, a scientist in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Biochemical Science Division, will speak at Montgomery College-Germantown on Monday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the College’s Spectrum Lecture series. The talk will take place in Globe Hall, which is located in the High Technology and Science Center, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, Md. This event is free and open to the public.

Like all Spectrum Lectures, Dr. Morrow’s presentation is designed for a non-scientific audience, enabling scientists, students and the community to learn about ground-breaking advancements in science. In this talk, Dr. Morrow will discuss current projects at NIST focused on developing measurements to support detection device performance used in the decontamination of buildings after a bioterror event.

Dr. Morrow has worked at NIST for the past four years. Her current research focuses on three specific areas: Bacterial adhesion and transport, surface chemistry and nanoscopic surface association. She has published numerous papers in her field and is frequently a speaker at conferences related to her work. She has developed and taught a variety of chemical and environmental engineering courses at Smith College

Dr. Morrow earned her Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Connecticut and her Bachelor of Science from Montana State University, Bozeman.
