News Release Date: November 7, 2008 Montgomery College, Women’s Bar Foundation to Host Seminar for High School Students on “Preparing for Success,” Nov. 22
Montgomery College and the Montgomery County Women’s Bar Foundation are hosting the eighth annual “Preparing for Success” seminar for local high school girls on Saturday, November 22 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Montgomery College’s Germantown Campus, Humanities and Social Science Center, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, Md. The all-day seminar program is designed for high school girls who plan to attend college or enter the workforce. The day begins with breakfast and remarks from keynote speaker Erricka Bridgeford, a mediator and motivational speaker. The participants attend workshops focusing on résumé writing and interview techniques, getting into college and paying for it, a survivor’s guide to independence, and street law and safety issues. An event tradition, “The Right Look” fashion show, with the program participants as models, will conclude the program. The program is free of charge and open to high school students in public, private, and alternative schools, as well as girls in independent living programs. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. The program is just one of the community projects sponsored by the Montgomery County Women’s Bar Foundation each year. The Foundation awards scholarships to students at local law schools and Montgomery College. This year’s recipients are Montgomery College students Amy L. Gilbert and Minhtien Tom. Free bus service to the event will be provided from several local high schools. Pick-up at Watkins Mill is at 9 a.m. Service from Montgomery Blair, Gaithersburg and Paint Branch High Schools is at 9:15 a.m. Buses will also pick up students at Quince Orchard, Einstein, and Blake High Schools at 9:30 a.m. The “Preparing for Success” program has won awards from the Maryland State Bar Association and from the Montgomery County Bar Association.
