Admissions Procedures: Nursing Program
An application for the MC Nursing Program at Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus is available and can be completed online, printed, signed and submitted. You will need the free Adobe Reader to use the form.

The Nursing Program has entrance requirements beyond those necessary for admission to Montgomery College.

While not required, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that all potential Nursing Program applicants attend one of the free Information Sessions.

An applicant for the Nursing Program must complete and meet the following criteria:
  • Be eligible for admission to Montgomery College (submit separate Montgomery College admission application if not submitted previously.) Admission to Montgomery College is open to all.
  • Meet all legal requirements and/or standards imposed by the institutions or agencies where the clinical experiences will occur.
  • Meet curriculum admission criteria, which have been approved in advance by the Campus Vice President and Provost for the curriculum for which the student is applying. To be admitted as a matriculating student in the nursing program, you must:
    • Be a high school graduate, hold a high school equivalence certificate, or be able to present special qualifications.
    • Score on the Math Assessment Test sufficient for placement into college level mathematics.
    • Complete the English Assessment tests for appropriate placement and score for placement into EN 101.
    • Complete a four credit general biology course.
  • Transcripts from other countries must be evaluated by an approved evaluation institution. Contact the Admissions Office for the information packet: 240-567-1501.
  • Must meet minimum grade point average of 2.5 out of 4.0 scale for consideration.

               ** The admissions GPA calculation will be based on grades earned in the semesters in    which your most recent 24 college level credits were attempted. If an applicant has attempted fewer than 24 college level credits secondary school records will be included in this calculation. Official transcripts are required in all cases.  Courses taken in the fall semester will NOT be counted toward eligibility for the following spring admission and courses taken in the summer will NOT be counted toward eligibility for the following fall admission.

  • Preference for admission is given to students with satisfactory GPA's who have completed BI 204, BI 205, EN 102 & MA foundation course.
  • Satisfactory completion of specified assessment testing, including but not limited to the TEAS.
  • Understand that participation in the Nursing Program, involving hospital practice, will require appropriate medical clearances and criminal background check.
  • Submit a completed application to the Admission, Records and Registration Department on the Takoma Park/ Silver Spring Campus by:
    • July 1 in order to be considered for the following spring semester
    • April 1 in order to be considered for the following fall semester
Completion of all program admission requirements does not guarantee placement into the program. Attach official copies of transcripts from all other colleges you have attended to the Health Science Program Application whether or not you have previously submitted transcripts to the College.
